Our commitment to our clients is foremost
Challenge Trust has been moving rapidly and efficiently to provide a full service portfolio including other support and complementary services that extends the service range. In doing so, we are improving the range of services and supports to address the needs of all clients irrespective of age, gender, culture or race and Challenge Trust has the privilege of supporting people along their individual recovery journey, in providing the following services:
Dual Diagnosis. This is a specialist service specifically designed for consumers who are affected by mental illness and addictions such as alcohol and drug issues.
Dual Disability. Challenge also offers another unique service for consumers who are affected by mental illness and also have a medical disability. This service is provided in conjunction with the Regional Intellectual Disability Care Agency (RIDCA) and the Needs Assessment and Service Coordination (NASC).
Housing and Supported Housing Options. Challenge Trust has recently entered into an innovative long-term housing development programme with NZHOT. This allows us to provide residential and support services at a competitive price, and our clients continue to have the option of permanent housing when transitioning back into the community.
Supported Living. Includes a range of support services that deliver individualised programmes to assist clients with daily living. This level of support encourages people to take responsibility for decisions affecting their lives. It involves personal planning to meet needs and choices. The service assists people under our care with tasks such as accessing community activities, social and recreational groups, parenting support, education and employment options, budgeting, and dealing with other agencies.
Respite Care. There are a number of facilities offering respite care services for clients. These facilities are specifically for Aged Care and Adult Packages of Care (POC) consumers as well as private respite options.
Supported Employment. Challenge runs a number of small businesses where clients engage themselves in work under the MyWork™ Programme. Recently a small lawn mowing operation was started. The range of other work activities that clients actually do varies from landscaping, cleaning, horticulture and carpentry.
Specialist Cultural Support. This service is available for both clients and staff. When establishing culturally specific services our cultural managers are involved from the outset and right through to service implementation and ongoing service monitoring. If Maori, Pacific or Asian people require specialist training or support this can also be provided either in house or through our external partners.
Peer Support Groups. These groups often consist of individuals who in the past, have experienced dark episodes in their lives, but who now willingly provide additional support and encouragement to others undergoing similar ‘lived’ experiences, to encourage them to progress at their own pace towards Challenge Trust’s recovery pathway.
Information/Advocacy/Support. Community education and advocacy is available to the general public who enquire about support services. These are made available at most of our service sites.
Family/Whanau Services. Challenge Trust provides services to support and advise family/whanau members of those affected by mental health issues, disability and social disadvantage. We understand the impact on the family/whanau network and how important it is for family/whanau to receive encouragement, education, advocacy and support when their loved ones are affected by mental illness or disability.
Life Skills Training. These other services are also provided by Challenge Trust to assist with the often difficult transition back into the workplace. The service includes scaleable working options where people can build a real work record with real work references.
